What does my spine have to do with my health?
Your spinal column surrounds and protects your spinal cord, a delicate system of nerves, which control your organs, muscles, immune system and your body’s natural ability to heal itself.
It’s a BIG deal.
Your ability to prevent disease relies substantially upon the condition of your spine and nervous system. A well aligned spine is a major factor in determining whether your body is producing health (optimum physical, mental and social well-being) or disease. Our doctor’s top priority is to correct your spine to optimize your nerve function. That way every, healthy choice you make has a lasting impact.
For over one hundred years, chiropractic has helped millions of people recover from sickness, disease and disability while minimizing the use of drugs and/or surgery in their lives. The doctor of chiropractic focuses on maintaining proper spinal function and its relationship to the nervous system and your good health.
What is chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a form of healthcare concentrating on the location and removal of a severe form of spine and nerve stress, a condition that puts pressure on nerves, unbalances your body, lowers your resistance to disease and weakens you: the vertebral subluxation complex.
What is a vertebral subluxation?
Joints can have disturbed biomechanics with or without pain or other symptoms and can alter load distribution, increase the risk of injury, accelerate degeneration and reduce optimal performance. Chiropractors identify dysfunctional joints and spinal adjustments help restore normal biomechanics.
How do subluxations occur?
Subluxations occur from physical and/or emotional stress. Subluxations may be caused in infancy from a difficult birth or childhood falls. Later in life, subluxations may be caused by gradual deterioration of the spine from accumulated stress, tension or more violent injuries like automobile accidents, falls and sports injuries.
The “hidden epidemic.”
Nearly everyone is affected by spinal nerve stress and so eventually get spinal subluxations; for that reason, we all need to have our spines checked by a doctor of chiropractic every once in awhile just as we have our eyes, teeth and blood pressure checked.
What does a doctor of chiropractic do?
A doctor of chiropractic will perform a thorough examination that includes a complete history, posture and x-ray examination all of which will help narrow down the location and cause of potential spinal subluxations. The doctor will then perform specific spinal adjustments to correct subluxated regions and help restore the body’s ability to heal itself.
- The body is a self-healing, self-regulating organism.
- The nervous system is the master system that regulates and controls all other organs and tissues of the body and relates the individual to his/her environment.
- Spinal biomechanical dysfunction in the form of vertebral subluxation complex may affect the nerve system’s ability to regulate function.
